Guitar, does a flamed maple top alway make better sound than spruce top?
Does it? I am looking at between YAMAHA APX500, which has been popular. But they just came out a new APX500 with maple top. I cant find reviews for the new model. would the maple top sound better? or it is possible to make the guitar sound worse than the original popular model? thanks for answering!
Sharon: you can't go wrong with a Yamaha Guitar because of its excellent construction and attention to detail.
However, maple, while okay, is not superior to spruce or cedar for the soundboard. It has to do with the grain straightness and wood density of the cedar and spruce families. Also, a non-laminated top is the most desirable as well.
The sides and back however can be maple as these materials contribute little to the overall sound of the instrument....even mahogany is okay.
